Since the 1990s, Stefan Rummel’s practice has focused on installation works, environments and sound installations. He sees the integration of sound and noise into his practice as an extension of the visual-artistic material as well as a sensory expansion. The various media, materials and sounds used in his works are delicately balanced, and he often draws on site-specific findings and observations when developing the formal structure.

For this exhibition, he is creating a landscape of plasterboard, silicone, dust and loudspeakers. The plasterboard panels are stacked on top of one another, shifting around within these piles like tectonic plates in the Earth’s outer shell (lithosphere). Small dwellings for sounds, out of which barely audible (acoustic) signals reverberate, threaten to fall apart. Glued together with silicone in a makeshift way, they slide towards a not yet clearly defined abyss. Is this abyss a genuine threat, or merely a reflection?
