Gerecke’s paintings are either applied to canvas, directly on to the wall, or on spatial installation elements reminiscent of wooden walls. The transparency of the wooden structures’ apertures corresponds to the light, thinly applied paint of the painted (canvas) murals, which incorporate the effects of color as well as light. The combination and arrangement of the works within the space enforces the idea that her works aren’t seen as individual objects, but as complete spatial installations where architectural elements and painterly interventions can no longer be distinguished from each other. Color and light assume an ordering, structuring function and influence.

For the exhibition, she developed a site-specific installative painting (wood and color) in the form of a passageway. The artwork was constructed as an extension of the staircase from first floor to ground floor. The artwork Gate I refers to the fear of change and transformation.
