Zhong Jialing's work deals with the practice of shaping reality. The artist constructs poetic narratives and misplaced landscapes in the context of daily life. One Reading the Views is a book that records an e-mail art project commissioned by the British Newgate Studio, based on the use of digital correspondence as a creative medium. During the National Day holidays in 2017, Zhong Jialing—or “+0,” as her first name can be pronounced—took a fictional trip to three tourist destinations and sent “travel” e-mails to both friends and strangers. The bilingual book records 8 letters by the artist and some of the recipients’ replies and stories they exchanged in return.
